The coating would help to protect them, but I personally don't know how much longer it would last with or without the coating. I guess it comes down to the cost of coating and the cost of replacing the headers in the event that it would need to be changed, which I highly doubt will occur.

My understanding for coating is to reduce the heat in the engine compartment from the headers and to keep the exhaust gases hotter as they more through the headers and downpipe. Hotter gas moves through faster than less hot gases.

Would you guys say that the coating would make a big difference in regards to increasing the heat within the headers and downpipes and reducing the heat in the engine compartment? Not sure the exact cost but I would believe it would cost a full hundred to have the headers and downpipes coated inside and out. Just wondering if it makes sense to spend the additional amount.

I think only if you track the car would you be able to tell the difference between being coated or not. Generally, you're not going to run the car hard enough and long enough for the heat buildup in the headers or the engine bay to make much of a difference.

I agree with Fatz, it may be worth it if you already have it apart, i wouldnt go out of the way to do it.
Also our downpipe has the cats in it so you really cant coat that, it would just be the headers. Thats why im still debating on doing it.
I was in a discussion with another group with people that have metal intake tubes like i do about coating them to keep the air cooler inside. Some said it was worth it, of course all the places that do the coating says it makes a big difference temperature wise of the air going into the motor.
Someone purchased an air temp gauge an installed it. There was very little change in the temp of the air going into the intake and the ambient air temp. We concluded that the air is moving so fast through the intake tubes and airbox it really doesnt have time to heat up

Thanks fellas, I appreciate the help. New to moding pretty much a newbie lol. Have you guys done or know of the advantages and disadvantages of porting the manifold intake for our car and what type of gains it produces?

I dont know anyone who has ported it, Disadvantage is you need to find someone who know how to do it correctly, advantages would be better airflow,
but i dont know if the intake is the limiting factor on the intake side, without possibly upgrading the throttle body or what other is the limiting factor you may not see much from it.

From my research I understand its one of the last mods to be done to actually gain anything, I saw on another post just doing porting added 25hp I think it was a clk55, just not sure how realistic that number is.

the clk55 uses a complete different motor, gains would vary engine to engine, But that number doesn't seem unrealistic for porting an intake. I cant speak if you would see that gain on a Mercedes.

That isn't really much you can remove to cut weight, at least for me im not loosing any features. Its still a benz im not gutting it out like my mustang.
Remover the spare and all the crap with that. Or you can start swapping stuff for carbon fiber parts.

It would have been nice if the car weighed around 3300lbs lol. I went with the cab it's nice to be able to put the top down once in awhile but the down side is that it increases the weight by 200 to 300 lbs. Were you able to get the the E55 intake on?

No, i didnt start it, i didnt think about it, ours is bigger where the Y tube connects to the engine than the E55, I was talking to someone about putting a larger throttle body on an E55 and was like oh ****, lol, So i ordered a different Y tube, ill have it in like 2 weeks.

Do you know what is the largest throttle body size we can put on the clk550 without having to do additional mods to make it fit and what type of gains could be expected from increasing the throttle body size?

with out modding no i do not, The best option if you want larger is to have your stock one bored out. Thats my plans for spring, i believe they can go 85mm, so there will be no other mods needed.
I do know people made a 90mm bbk work on E55's but it required allot of modification, But they also have a super charger also, so not sure what the mods would be on a N/A motor.

I know the design of the snout for the 90mm changes into an oval where ours is a circle. That would be a great mod and you should see a good increase in hp and tq, too bad there isn't any plug and play ones. In the event of going larger than 85mm what mods would be required?

Thank you that was very helpful. After reading the material on that site and doing some more research I was wondering if it would be necessary to change out the MAF to a larger one (in this case to an 85mm [same size as the TB after being bored]), change the rubber gasket between the TB and MAF to a larger size, and bore the intake manifold as well to get the full potential of the gains possible from boring a throttle body? Also, would it be realistic to expect 25hp/25tq just from a 3mm increase of the TB?

The tube between the mass air and the throttle body again i never measured but it clamps on the outside of the the throttle body so its going to be larger than the throttle body.
I also do not not the size of the bore on the intake, i never measured to say if there would be any need to port match it.
But yes the more you upgrade the more you would see , as long as it tuned properly.
