CLK500 '06 Intermittent Non Start with Keyless Go & Key.
Hi all, been having a problem on and off for the last few weeks mainly on short journeys where the Keyless Go button & Key will not start the car. All the dash lights come on and radio etc but it will not fire/crank. Wait a few minutes and then starts first turn, like new. The other day I had the first malfunction come up which said EPS take to workshop and a coolant error, but they have now dissappeared and no malfunctions appear. My husband has not had this problem happen to him, so thought I was not pressing the start button hard enough, but the other day it did it when he was stood outside the car and he heard a screaching noise and thinks the Starter Motor could be on its way out. We thought that a new battery would be a good idea to fit first, as it was only happening on short journeys, but unfortunately it happened to me after this, so there is still a problem. Anyone had a starter motor replaced and did this happen to you or could it be anything else. Many thanks, getting totally fed up with this car now already spent nearly £2000 on it with a valve body, water pump, and broken rear spring. Passenger door handle doesn't lock car, button broken for passenger window and hood separator switch dodgy, so all in all a Friday afternoon car!

Yes battery replaced problem still there the worst today wouldn't start for about 5-10 mins after repeatedly trying button & key. Could it be the starter motor does makes a screaching noise on intial crank when starts.

If the starter is making noises, then it could be that. I'd check the voltage while cranking. You should get 12.6v at rest, no less than 11v when cranking, and 14v+ at idle. If voltages at rest and idle are OK but it bottoms out during cranking (or attempting to crank) then it very well could be the starter.
