Parking spots in the US are about twice the size as in Europe...no need for mirror folding
Yes now isn't that true!
Nevertheless, it is more for street parking, have you inner city street parallel parking? Dump trucks, buses, idiots squeezing through, clipping mirrors?
And besides, it's cool to watch .
It is also a good way to check to see if the car is locked from a distance, no need to leave the house 😂

Haha trust me there is no shortage of idiots who are willing to clip your mirrors around here. I actually use mine for protection from dings. I'd rather have them hit my mirror with their door than put a ding in my car.
I like the lock status indicator though . That's useful.
Well looks like it all lights up, like I originally said. Here's a pic of mine. I think my knob bulb is out...so I'll take it apart when I have some time. This is with the front fogs on.
Yes, same here in my 2009 coupe.
I'll have to double check at night, but it sure looked like everything was on...
Mega, what year is your 55? It must be from before whatever year they stopped illuminating all that. I know that Wes (Dynomite05) also has a fully illuminated switch. Anyway, if you don't have it, it's not about burnt bulbs - you just don't have it. So if you want it, perhaps you can buy an older switch as opposed to newer one. Martin, if your '09 really illuminates like that, post up a pic.

Don't have bulbs or special programming? Either one.
Yep, same as mine. Of course the fogs are not usually on, or in my case, never. The only other light mine has is for the headlight washer button because I have xenon lights.

I have the same set up as you. Do older switches exist like that?
I'll have to look at ours when I get home. I can't remember if it lights up or not...
I know the stupid cig adaptor bulb went out. That was a pain to get to but once I figured out how to get the actual socket OUT it was fine. I would have swapped to an LED but it would look super stupid since all the lights in the merc are amber, with the exception of the dash cluster (god knows why, soooo ugly that it's mismatched!)
How hard is it to take apart that panel for the headlight illumination... I will probably look into this more this weekend if they don't illuminate.
My Ford ranger's headlight knob never illuminated, and I added and LED in the knob itself. Looks like it came from the factory from it. Have to check out the Merc now... I'm intrigued to make stuff glow!

It's an 04. It still makes no sense though. Why would they randomly discontinue 1 bulb from the headlight switch?
It doesn't make sense not to have illumination of headlights panel on such car. I could understand on Ford but no forgiveness for MB.
Yeah seems like an error or something burnt out to me. Anyway, I'll remove the face plate from the switch later and maybe somebody with the new version switch can do the same? Let's check if at least the construction is the same and if the bulb locations are there.
The headlight switch should be illuminated at all times. You get in the car at night...you need to see the switch before you can turn on the lights. Duh.
Pics are very dark, but as you can hopefully see, my almost 2007MY car, has the following illumination:
Key in the ignition in position 1, 1 turn.
Lights on automatic.
Key in position 2. On two clicks of the key, all electrics on.
Lights on automatic.
Fog lights turned on.
Lights on automatic.
So all lights, mirror adjust, mirror fold, headlight washers (/halogens), and the switch piece itself are illuminated. The types of light are not, except from the fogs F&R individually.
One thing I've just noticed too, is that the whole switch panel is different in arrangement between left- and right-hand drive cars.. One would have thought they would have used a standard switch panel on all the cars, but they've even reflected the locations on the switches on the panel.
The two lights on the left are front and rear fog lights.
When I pull the light switch out once, the fronts come on, and the first light illuminates. When I pull it to the second step, the rear fog lights come on, and the lower light illuminates.
As for the third light on the right, I can't remember when/if that came on.
I just checked the for lights yesterday...
I had the same thought wondering why the illumination wasn't working during the night on the way I drove the car back from the dealership...
By the way, mine doesn't has those two folding mirrors function either...
I actually checked mine in more detail. When you get in the car the knob is lit, everything else is off...when you turn the lights on, everything lights up. So, pretty much just like any other car.
