Aftermarket Audio Upgrade Questions
Hi All
I have a face lift 2005 convertible. After lots of thoughts and hesitation I'm going to replace my Command 20 with the Pioneer 4100NEX. I've been all through the boards and thanks to all those who have gone before me.
Plans include new head unit, amp, canbus adapter, and backup camera as long as I have everything opened up. I plan on leaving speakers stock at the moment.
I've come up with two 2 questions (for now):
1) Has anyone tracked down the speaker side connector supplier for the HK amp? Ideally I would like to create a matching harness to pick up the speaker runs instead of cutting and splicing.
2) Any thoughts and recommendations on the best amplifier location? Ideally it would go in a niche somewhere in the trunk and I could keep the trunk itself clean.
Thanks

My car is an 03 pre-face lift. I used a Pioneer AVIC-900 HU with navigation and backup camera and a JBL 4-channel amp. It was much easier to get a new amp then trying to find the canbus adapter. I ran RCA cables from the HU through plastic trims below the door into trunk. The amp was mounted up side down to the rear speaker shelf. There were many predrilled holes on the shelf so I utilized those to avoid drilling new holes. I ran many pieces of wire from the amp output to the stock wiring harness in trunk. I crimped spade connectors to the wires, then plug them to the appropriate socket on the harness. Everything was secured with electrical tape and zip ties. The backup camera was mounted just below the license plate lamp, using the same mounting screws. I can put everything back to stock anytime because there was no drilling, cutting or slicing has been done.
