Any one from Northern Virginia Area?---2004 CLK500 SRS Light

During a heavy rain, driver rear passenger well was soaked in water. Since then, SRS light came on. Now all water has dried and gone, but still light is present

Autopart stores generic OBDII scanners can read Check Engine light, but not anything related to SRS.

Was wondering if anyone has access to Carsoft 7.4 software or a hand-held tool called "iCarsoft i980" in Northern VA or DC/MD area.

Would appreciate if anyone would be able to help me read the codes or can point me in any direction.

Thanks so much in advance for any help.

Did you check the drain tubes?

Yeah, I thoroughly cleaned all the drain tubes afterwards. But SRS light is still on.

SRS fault code is stored in memory.

As you may be aware, you have to get it cleared with Benz Aware scanner from the Dealer or Indie Benz shop with the scanner/reader to reset it.

But before that I would remove the seats and get access to the air bag connector, clean with contact cleaner and let it dry completely out or it will throw the code again after you reset it.

Thanks for the advice. Which connector are you talking about? What about if I remove battery terminal, would it reset it?

It should be the air bag that got wet which shorted the SRS system that threw the code.

Unforunately, pulling the battery negative side will do nothing as it is a hard code that can only be manually reset with the MBZ scanner/reader. Stoopid I know, but I guess our DOT demanded it because they knew we would just pull the negative side battery to reset like the CEL fiasco

Are you sure it was not the front seats that go wet too?

Thanks for sharing the pict. Is it from Front/Drive side, correct? Where can I locate it?

Water was there in the rear driver side passenger well area, which was going underneath drivers seat. That's what I do remember.

Passenger seats do not have any sensors or do they?

These are located behind the front seat's panel. You need a 20Torx bit to remove the panel then pull down to release the panel from the seat.

Look for airbags in the back seats there is no sensors to speak of, just these crazy plugs with some sort of coiled rapped resistor in them. If water gets between the contacts, it will more likely than not have continuity ( contact ) then cause the fault. If dried out it would be fine but better to e safe and clean it out before you reset so you do not have to do it again.

Thanks so much DRACO, can you please share a pict of front seat panel? At least I can remove those panels and clean those areas and contacts.

Sorry, no pics.

But literally, flip seat forward like you are letting people in the back seats and then use the torx bit tool and unscrew the two screws towards the bottom of the back panel. Remove then slide down. it will just come right off.

While you are there inspect all the wires to make sure they have plenty of slack when seat is flipped forward.

That's about it.

When you move the Orange slide lock down, use a firm grip and pull down on the plug but do not pull to hard to damage the wire, pull straight down, do not wiggle the plug or you may damage the air bag connector.

Plug has a lock and the air bag has a divet to keep the plug in just in case the orange slide lock was released by accident.
