Good afternoon,
Question 1- How often do crankshaft sensor's go out? and what causes it to go out?
I got mine replaced April 2015 and its acting up again, car produced symptoms of car shutting off at light, car kind of hesitating a little bit when accelerating. Took to get a diagnostic check, and the code P0335 or something like that which indicated, faulty crankshaft sensor.
Question 2- I have a 2006 CLk 500, because my rear headrest rollbars are up and I can't get them down I am unable to let my top down. However I wondered would I be able to manually let it down?![action](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/action1.gif)

Basically heat causes the sensors to go bad - crank or cam.
Yes, you can lower the top manually. The procedure is in your owners manual. You can download a manual if you do not have one.

You will need to lower the headrests before you can lower the top - even lowering the top manually. There are instructions in the owner's manual for lowering the headrests with the Allen wrench in the trunk. It says not to lower them with the top up, but that's only because it's harder to see what you are doing and they want to make sure you don't damage the headliner.
