2007 CLK550 oil type?
I read a lot on many threads but could not find a clear answer.
What kind of oil does a 2007 CLK550 with 97k miles take and how much?
It appears to be 8.5 quarts of 0w-40 mobile one, is this correct?
I plan on filling 8.5 quarts of mobil one and a mobil one filter which raises another question, what type of filter? Though I could easily find that out myself.

1. only put in what you take out volume wise.
2. m1 0 40 used to be the AMG oil of choice. I think the dealer now offers a 5 40 instead. That said your car is not an AMG.
If you searched you didn't search very hard this has been discussed at length many times. Also you manual and the dealer will tell you.

I noticed that MB dealerships are using 5W40 for oil change. For a while, they offer both choices in their parts departments. Now they sell only 5w40.
I posted this question a few years ago and the general concensus was 0w40 would be better for our cars.
As for oil filter, I use Mann Fleece Oil Filter which is OEM.

The 0w vs 5w has to do with how well the oil flows when very cold. The quicker oil gets circulated to the moving parts after startup, the more engine wear protection you have. However, unless your car is sitting for a long time (+16 hours) in sub zero temperatures you probably would need lab equipment to detect a difference in wear over a 5 year period.
MB probably changed to 5w because for the vast majority of drivers it doesn't matter much. The "40" is the most critical for most uses.
I use the Mann filter also. I use a different oil than M1 but there is no need to get into that. M1 is an exceptional oil - just use the one/s certified for your MB - all synthetics are not equal.

All you need is an oil that meets MB spec 229.5. You don't say where you are located (please update that in your user's profile!) but if in the USA, the most readily available 22.9 oil is Mobil1 0w40 "Euro Formula". As for a filter, I like the Mann "synthetic fleece" filter HU718/5x.
As for quantity, forget how much comes out - official fill is 9.0 quarts with filter.

On a 550 its 9 quarts. No question. And I always drain from the bottom. 9 quarts puts it right where it should be on the dipstick, which is why I no longer check.

M1 is over $40 for ONE gallon in the UK, hence the reason I use a Merc approved alternative!.....yet again we get royally stitched up in the UK!

Thanks!
Thank you all for the responses. 9 quarts of 0w-40 Mobil1 it is! I purchased a M1 filter as well because Advance Auto was out of stock of the Mann filter I needed, no worries on that though.

I always go to an indie for the oil change. Although according to my owner manual, the engine oil capacity for my CLK320 is 8 litres, I ask him to put in only 6.5 litres. I would put in another 0.4-0.7 litre at home after the car is parked for a few hours.
One time he put in a bit over 7 litres, I got the malfunction of excess engine oil.
So, unless you have time to drain everything, I suggest you put in less at first and top it up later. It is a pain to remove excess oil afterward.
