Love it! That's the direction I am going with my White CLK350. Did you have the windshield tinted as well? Your headlights are perfect; did you polish them yourself or use a kit?
Thanks,

Alfa 159
Sold it! .......Reasons??.....well I'm not a brand loyal man....I like the cars I like....and I never really gelled with the W209 CLK200K. My wife knew that it was not the car for me after about a month. I normally mod all my cars....but I never did more than service her and replace the cassette radio with a 7 in touch screen one. I just never felt "the love" for this car. Nothing wrong with it.....just found it a touch....well... boring and characterless compared to some cars I've owned to be honest. I know it only had the 1.8 litre Kompressor motor but it was not that....most of my miles are a slowish commute so having more power would not have really helped to be honest. Although on that front I think It would have been more fun on the open roads without the 255 rear tyres on AMG 4 18inch wheels.....just too much grip to be fun....! Unless it was raining or very cold there was next to no line adjustment even with heavy throttle use. I'm not saying its a bad car....just not the car for me. So what next?....well I'm looking for a nice (getting difficultto find over here) Alfa Romeo 159 with the 200BHP 2.4 5 cylinder diesel motor...and yes I know all about their alleged reliability issues but I've had a few Alfa in the past and only ever had one water pump failure on one of them (a 156 V6 Veloce).....never anything serious enough to leave me at the roadside! What they "might" lack in reliability they more that make up for in character, looks and style. Its been fun gents.....I know I don't post much on here but I've read lots so thanks to the regulars and long may you enjoy your cars. Oh ....and any UK members, don't forget to wave as you pass me by....broken down on the hard shoulder!!

Changed spark plugs

I changed the plugs, 115000 km on them. All looked like they were burning well.

Took off from a light in sport mode for the first time....Jesus Christ!
I've been tapppin' it cool since i picked it up a couple of weeks ago, putting around on the ice in comfort mode. I took off ESP and switched to sport mode because the snow has mostly melted, and it was quite a surprise. This thing barks pretty good.
Does anyone know for sure what these top out at? Wiki says 150 mph, but other places I have read say 130 mph.
My face hurts after driving this for a while. The smile just keeps getting wider as I drive.

Nice and tan looking.

I have the clk55. The 550 is faster stock for stock. The 55 is limited to 155mph but I have heard the top speed is 189 delimited. I have no clue if that is true or how many miles it would take to get it going that fast.

I don’t know where you got 130 from my old CLK270 turbo diesel could do 148 on the gps.

I believe stock they are electronically limited to 130 MPH. I recall that just because that was a test for me after the Kleeman tune. Tested to see if it would exceed 130 w/o retarding. I think it is limited to 155 due to aerodynamics.

In the USA they were limited to 135MPH. You can set them to 155 with SDS or take the limit altogether with a tune. They're not limited aerodynamically to 155 by any means. Depending on the model, they can go a lot faster. Who wants to test out some top speeds

I've driven around 150 a couple times while engaging in battle (Corvette and Charger). The speedo was between 145 and 150 when I felt safe to look down. Both those cars started to pull away when we reached those speeds (the Charger due to 485+ HP with a tune and the Corvette due to 460+ tuned and aero). It would take a pretty long stretch of road to get my car to 165/170.

Also, there are reasons for the aero work on say a Porsche or the MB GTR. I think my car may hug the road a little bit better than stock and I could certainly tell that it wouldn't take much to go airborne at those speeds. The Corvettes and Porsches I've been a passenger in tend to feel that they get "more" connected/planted to the road at high speeds. With my 550 there is far less control at those speeds. I felt a bit like I was "hanging on" rather than driving.

"Tunnel vision" is a good thing at those speeds. So for those wanting to give it a shot, beware....... and ensure the road is straight...

If you are int he USA and going over 135mph in a non-AMG car, then you either have an ECU tune or have used SDS to increase vMax. With SDS Develpper Mode, you can bump vMax to 155mph. AMG cars come from the factory with vMax at 155mph. An ECU tune can remove vMax altogether.

The car is Kleeman tuned with headers and 200CEL cats. My point was that the engine is willing; the rest of the car not so much......

Made it to Islamorada, Fl yesterday 3 days after leaving home in Stow, MA. The trip started in snow and slush, so the car looked like it had been in a rally with dirt everywhere. Didn't affect the ride. I simply love taking this car on long trips. Today I washed it so now its presentable. Will drive to Lorelei with the top down to have dinner on the beach! We will be here all of February. Hopefully there will be spring in the air when we get back home on March 3rd.

I seem to recall a thread about fixing that problem. I think it was a bad solder on the motor. If not here, then look on benzworld.

BTW, what are you replacing the CLK with?

I'm just going to leave the headrest alone, as for next my car Audi TT.

today i finished up my brake conversion! testing alignment of the pad and the rotors. then after everything stabilizes, i need to get the paint refinished. woohoo, good step forward for my dream car setup.

recipe: slk55 calipers, clk63 non black rotors, hawk ceramic front, akebono ceramic rear... i did the full 6/4 pot conversion.

so far modulation and feel is good.

i will try to gather my info for anyone else wanting to try this... i made some 7075 aluminum spacers for the caliper bracket to use the larger clk rotors.

Looking good. The stock replacement for the clk55 6pot is the r171 340 rotor. Is there an advantage to running the bigger rotor.

Ruining? Haha, yea... as far as my research the bigger rotor is heavier. No major difference for daily driving? Car stops fine with stock brakes.... also remember stock car runs 225f and i upgraded mine to 235f. There is probabky a braking limit 235 width tires can hold?

i mainly did it for looks, i like to see the rotor fill in the wheel barrel. And i got a really good deal on the rotors on ebay, used some ebay credit with some cc points. I made the spacers at a friends machine shop. So it was easy enough to throw in?
