HORN problem
HORN problem
Hey guys, just got my DCM working again and my car is almost ready to go for the inspection, but the horn isnt working! The fuse is fine and the horn is working (hooked it up directly to the battery). I tested the ends of the horn connection for current when the horn is being pressed but no change in the multi meter reading. Maybe Im just testing it wrong? I dont hear any relay clicking in the front SAM when the horn is pressed. Maybe the wrong fuse is in? I pulled the regular 15a fuse out and took a picture. Im attaching the picture here. Maybe someone can help me locate the relay or tell me what kind of fuse is really supposed to be in there?
Thanks!
Thanks!
If the fuse is fine and the horn works its most likely that the contacts in the steering wheel have gone bad. The size of the fuse doesn't make a difference, unless you blow the fuse.
The best way to chase the problem is with a multimeter starting at the fuse and ending at the horn.
Does the panic button set off the horn?
If you need to check the steering wheel contacts follow the proper procedure to ensure that you don't set off the driver airbag.

So I tried to switch around the relays in the front but that didn't work. The buttons on the steering wheel and cruise control still work so does that mean it can't be the clock spring? Or are there connections I can fix in the clock spring for the horn?
UPDATE: Not sure what I did but now the horn (not so loud) will sound when I press the horn button, but only when the vehicle is on or in accessory mode, not when it's just stationary. Is there something wrong with the horn because it's not blowing very loud? And is this normal that the horn only works when the car is on?
Thanks

When I bought my CLK a couple of months ago only the high pitched horn worked and it was very wimpy. I bought two generic horns at Advance Auto Parts and replaced both horns in about 20 minutes. They work great now. If you do it make sure you get a low pitched and a high pitched horn.
The horns are easily accessible on my car with one at the right front corner and the other in the middle front. On other models they may be harder to get at.
