Keyless Go Issues

The electronic gremlins have begun. I've only had my 2004 CLK320 for 2 weeks and now the Keyless Go is acting up. There have been about 10 occurances where the display would just say, "KEY NOT RECOGNIZED." I would keep pushing the start button and it would eventually recognize. Today, it would not recognize at all even though I was able to unlock the car by touching the door handle. Dropping it off to the dealership on Thursday. This car only has 497 miles. I guess if I wanted reliability, I would've bought something else.

If i wanted realaility, I would have bought something else? Oh calm down already....its just a simple problem. Even the most expensive of cars come with minor circuit boards issues and such. Likely needs a quick board change...

My keyless go didnt work, and all they did was changet he shift knob with a new button and it ready to go.

As a new car buyer...you must be willing to accept the hassle of dealing with this minor issues...dont go all dramatic on the situation.

Mercedes just bought back my 2001 C320 under the lemon law. This is exactly how the problems began with my old car. It just started with something minor just like this. With the C, it was the key not being unable to unlock the door and had problems such as having the tranny replaced twice. In the 3 years I had the car, it was taken to the dealership almost 40 times.

Try this:

Start your car with the key. Then shut it off. Now see if the Keyless go works.

My Keyless Go was acting weird and using the actual real key to start the car once re initialized the whole system.

Keyless Go problems went away after that.

I've had to use the key several times since the Keyless Go wouldn't start the car. The SA thinks there is something wrong with one of the antennas so they're going to replace that.

Can't say you didn't try.... The good news is that all the need to do is hook the DAS laptop up to your car and it will show exactly what the entire Keyless Go system is doing.

Then it should be simple to see what component is the problem

I hope it really is a quick fix. I don't want to lose faith in Mercedes quite yet. My 2001 ML320 is running like a champ with very minimal issues. I just find it interesting that the Mercedes built in the US held up better than the German built one.

Try this, this might be your cheapest solution yet! I had similar problems like yours for a while. My local dealer decided to change the batteries in the key even though it was quite new. Problem solved. Happy camper. :p

Thanks for the advice, but I've already tried it as a quick fix. The problem is gotten a bit worse as I can not get in to the car or start the engine now with both keys and neither of them are recognized so the car was towed to the dealership. This is via the manual method of putting the key in ignition. I had to enter the car with the blade.

Sorry it didn't work. But don't lose faith in MB, it's just one of those glitches that happen to the best of cars. Be glad it's surfacing now than later. Good luck!

With my last MB, I had key problems that they weren't able to fix for many months because they didn't acknowledge the problem yet because it was a brand new body style and there weren't enough complaints.

Although probably not your problem, I've found if I have too many other keys on the same keychain in my pocket, sometimes it can block the signal, moving the keys around fixes the problem.

The manual says something about making sure there are no other keys in the same pocket too.

Freakinfreak, once you get it fixed, you're gonna be so glad you did coz Keyless go is simply the BEST. Check this out, the other day I left my key in my pants pocket and threw it in the trunk after gym. The trunk lid would not stay closed coz my key was in there. Just as the doors wont lock if you have it in the cabin. Unquestionably the best option you can have.

I have some concerns about all the electronics in the car too. Afterall, the more electrical your car is, the harder it is to fix (or just finding out what's wrong exactly).

Well, my SA called today and my car should be ready tomorrow. Apparently, some components in the system were not coded to the right country and that was causing some issues. SDS was able to detect this and they were also able to replicate the problem at the dealer which I'm grateful for. They are also addressing the drift to the right problem and hopefully it will drive centered now. They also ordered a new set of keys just to be on the safe side.

Picked up the car and things seem to be back to normal. The car is no longer drifting to the right. Too bad it had to rain today. I guess I'll get the car washed again when I get my windows tinted.
