Top won't finish opening

2015 Jeep Cherokee , 2004 Mercedes CLK 500 convertiable
Top won't finish opening
When I try to put my top down it goes in the trunk and before the lid closes it stops and a message says to close the Ski Bag . i have no idea what that is . I put the top back up and looked in the trunk and don't see a thing . Can anyone help?

Do you have the ski bag portal? It's an opening in the rear seat behind the center armrest. It is required to be closed when the top is lowered. Make sure it is securely closed. Also make sure the trunk partition is closed. I think with the ski bag, these two are wired in series, so it may actually be the trunk partition triggering this. A common issue with it is weak Lift-o-Mat struts that hold it in place.

As the OP, this is a bit late in coming, but I just want to thank the folks here (JettaRed in particular). We finally got around to replacing the trunk struts in my car this weekend. The hardest part was getting the clips back onto the new struts after installing them. I'm so grateful for this forum - we were able to do a $50 repair in less than ten minutes and you saved us about $700. You guys are the best! As for the console, I'll either live with it or tackle it another day, but I'm thrilled with the results of this repair.
