Well, being a MY2006 CLK350, it has an M272 engine that will be in the range for potential balance shaft failure. If it has failed, there is almost never a need to change the entire engine - you'd just replace the balance shaft.

Now, just because the engine is in the range does not mean it has failed. We need the diagnstic codes and symptoms codes to know for sure.

Is this an ML350? What are the symptoms? Just check engine light? As Rodney said, hook it up to star and find out the codes.
