Question Trading an 04 209 for the 05 slk55

Guys I'm getting tempted to trade my 04 500 for the new 05 slk55. I've never been a big fan of the slk until this one, although I could do without the pointed nose. Regardless, the price is about the same and I feel you get much more for the $ with the slk55 vs a well equipped500; bigger and amg engine, a folding drop top, better/ sportier dash and a more nimble car. I guess the down side is loss of a back seat and a harder ride. Can you think of anything else to consider? If so please list.

Thank you

2010 ML350 CDI AMG Sports, BMW e92 335i (sold), CLK240 Avantgarde (sold)
have to admit the interior is quite nice on the new SLK... especially the climate control and the new DVD Comand unit. Here are some pics to make up your mind quicker

what color combination are you considering?

I love the silver with the red interior

Cheers,
Ho

2003 CLK55
Dude, just like with any car...its all about the test drive. I don't think you will truly know the car until you slide behind the wheel. Granted that will be tough with a car like this. But at least drive a new SLK320.Its not all about the exterior looks. Remmeber....you won't be always looking at the outside of her. Back in 1998 I really wanted a new SLK230, until I sat behind the wheel. I felt trapped in that thing. Way too small, but if I never test drove it then I wouldn't have known. Luckily the dealer had a new (1999) CLK430 sitting there just waiting to be driven. One ride in that baby and I knew...it was a V8 forever! Damn, I still remember that test drive like it was yesterday.

As I mentioned in the original post I was never a fan of the slk, the main reason (which I did not mention) was the small size and it seemed to be a "chicks car" (sorry male slk owners, just my opinion) the new one is supposed to be bigger and the 5.5amg engine, new interior, chassis and price (compared to what I paid for my CLK500) is very tempting. I called my local dealer to check it out in the flesh but they said not till August. Still having trouble with that damn nose. Have you guys seen the new sport seats...wow.

You mean a Porsche GT3? I had way too many Porsche's over the years and miss the 993 series. It will be interesting to see the new 997 due out in Sept.

Yeah the 996 GT3. I'm planning on a 997TT if they actually release it. The Techart Type 2 996 is one of my favorite cars out right now, by far...

996 Turbo
The SLK is a bit cramped though not too bad my biggest crib though is the front pillar is right in your face very noticeable when the roof is off. Not a hazard to your line of site but it is very annoying.

CLS550
Didja get a price for the SLK55 ... i've heard in the neighborhood of 70K.

another thing to consider is there are less options available it seems for the new SLK. No ventilated seats or KeyLessGo ... mayeb they will add options over model lifetime.

I saw a new SLK in the flesh on a factory visit (to pick up my car) in Bremen, Germany. It is really quite a nice car in the flesh - so much so that we might be thinking of getting one for the other half!

Pictures don't really do it justice Just my three pennies worth...
