You may need a compatibility bridge if you opener is fairly new. I needed one for my 07 to link to my new lift master, same as chamberlain. The bridge is available online for around $25.

I thought the Chamberlain site was pretty comprehensive on models that work with each model opener. But yeah, you likely need the "bridge". Basically the transmitter in your mirror and the opener speak a different language. You need a separate thing that will translate your car's language into the opener's language.

Just did this on the new to me 2014 e350 today. You will need the remote.
If you have a rolling code garage door opener, it is a two step process: First pair the car to the remote, then pair the car with the garage door opener with the learn button on the garage door opener.
I had my usual difficulty till I finally remembered that it was a two step process.
Good luck.

The first car I had with Homelink was a MY2001 ML and it worked just fine with my Sears rolling-code opener. I just had to follow the two-step process to first teach the button in the car with the opener's remote, then sync the rolling code with the button on the opener.
I know there are some very new style openers that use a pure digital system that is incompatible with any Homelink. My security system is like that - we have remotes for it and they cannot be programmed into Homelink. Same goes for the automated gate at the condo at the beach - Homelink won't recognize it because it's a digitally coded signal.

+2. I always tried programming our clk to my liftmaster 8500's and it never worked. Tried it on our 2009 w211... still didn't work.
It wasn't until I broke down and called homelink that they told me that I need the bridge. $20 later and 3 minutes to set it up, I had it working!
Makes me wish I would have called them sooner when we had the clk so that it would have worked..lol
I ended up retrofitting a homelink system in my Ranger. Zero issues using the compatibility bridge.

I could not program my 05 CLK320 for the longest time. My Genie garage door opener has rolling codes. Genie has a toll free support number and walked me through the process. Now I am a happy camper. Maybe Chamberlain has a support number??
