2005 CLK 320
Headlight issue

So I have regular Halogen lights on the front of my 2005 CLK 320 Cab. I started having issue with the drivers side headlight not coming on. ( every light in the driver side enclosure does not work) I checked all the wiring and connections , bulbs and everything is good. I have noticed a Clicking noise coming from the steering column area inside the car. Like Click----Click---Click. (no not a A/C actuator). The odd thing is when i was checking the headlights for power, i unplugged the main plug feeding the Lamp Assembly. Started the car. and had no power coming from any of the points on the plug.. I think there are 5 wires going into the plug. BUT i turned the car off with the key (not the button) and the clicking started again. So i went out and checked power (12v Test Light) and on one wire, my test light was going on and off to the clicking in the steering column. So anyone know if there is a relay in that area? or could it be the SAM Module?

NO LONGER ACTIVE
The headlights are controlled directly by the front SAM - no fuses, no relays.

2008 C230 and 2004 C320 coupe
w203 also with psgr side headlamp out

Would this also be true for my 2004 C320 coupe? Can't find a dedicated fuse and am looking for a guilty relay but no success yet. I was also looking at the role of a SAM unit as a next possible source of the problem. Any advice?

Yes, the W203 and W209 use virtually identical electrical systems.

Since none of the lights in the driver's side headlight work, check the ground wire on the connector - it's the one they all have in common. I think it's brown (most all ground wires on German cars are brown).

Thanks for the tip. I take that approach. All tail lights are working and all bulbs are replaced front and back. I do get an intermittent warning that the license plate light is out but have replaced those bulbs. Connectors are tight so I'll start checking the ground as you suggest. Only the passenger side headlamp is affected.
