Weird dash pop-up?
Hey guys this is only my second post. I have something really strange to share with you guys. My car has been driving perfect, I have a 2006 clk350 with 115k miles on it. When I'm driving I randomly get these dashes all around my display, it happens for a split second then goes away. It looks like cruise control but it's not trust me. The car drives fine, I just thought it was kind of strange, like maybe a warning of something to come? I'm going to post 2 pictures, 1 of them I edited myself to give you an idea of where the dashes are that randomly pop up for a quick second while driving. I usually recognize it about 1 time for every time I take it somewhere. Hopefully I'm not crazy and you guys know what it is.
recent repairs:
ECU and Body Sam control module
Alternator
although I only recognized this after an alternator swap not when I got a new ecu.

There is nothing that should cause that. It's probably some sort of electronic defect in the cluster, possibly caused by voltage issues. Due to the high cost of replacing a cluster, I think I'd just live with it.

Thanks Rodney, I will most likely just live with it. Will anything happen if I don't replace a cluster?

Other than it possibly failing completely, no. When I first saw your picture, I did not realize it was your artwork. I thought you actually had irregularly spaced dots in your cluster, and I thought "I can't wait for Rodney to explain this."

That's a possibility, too. Cruise control is a strange feature on these cars as it is not really controlled by one central component. It's dependent upon the cluster, the ECU and the TCU, and even brings ESP in, too.

Yes I noticed the ESP having an effect once. I know it isn’t advisable to drive with CC while it’s raining, but while it wasn’t raining all that heavily, I did hit a large puddle and began to aquaplane. Almost as soon as it did the cluster started flashing red with the message cruise control deactivated! It was nice to know it was all tied together!
