06 clk 350 soft top
hello all, my first time on a forum, my father was looking to getting my mother a 06 clk350, doing so I warned him about reliability and to go with Lexus, he didn’t listen and here we are. The SRS light is on, which isn’t a big deal, but the main problem is the soft top doesn’t work, everytime we try to use it it makes a sort of grinding noise, like it’s trying but just can’t push it open. I went into the trunk and on the left side checked the fluid, I can’t remember what’s it’s called but it was empty the hydraulic fluid. , we refilled it and the top still won’t go up, and it’s full again. Sorry if this wasn’t very clear I tried my best, thanks.

So do you get any messages on the instrument cluster about the soft top operation, or does it just not work? Does it still make a grinding noise even though you refilled the reservoir? What fluid did you use? Is the reservoir still full, or did it leak down again? If the reservoir is losing fluid and you can;t see any signs of leaks, then it's probably in the mail lift cylinder(s) and the fluid will puddle deep in the trunk.
Since you also have an SRS malfunction, I suggest you get a scan tool that can read MBZ's proprietary systems (not a generic OBDII scanner). There are several for around $150, like the iCarsoft i980 and iCarsoft MBII. Of course the "best" is to get your own SDS (Star Diagnosis) like the dealer uses. Chinese clone versions are around $250 - $750, depending on how much computer work you want to do to get it installed vs. a turnkey setup. Both the SRS system and soft top controller have diagnostic codes that can lead to a proper solution tot he problems.

Oh, well there's your problem. If the partition is not closed, the top won't operate. When you pull the partition down, it should snap very tightly in place so that it trips its limit switch. Often what happens is that the gas-filled struts that attach to the partition become weak with age and won;t hold tightly in place. They are fairly easy to replace, and cost about $20 each. Search the forum - there's at least one thread with information about where to buy them and how to replace them.

Yes I know that, I know how to close it and checked that, it’s fine. I’m out of guesses, and I don’t wanna go to mercedes and have them look at it and automatically bill me like they tend to do. I’d rather them tell me and fix it.

Kambam362799, I had similar issue with softtop not closing. I took a 3/4" PEX copper ring used for plumbing and cut it in open, just like a jumbo paper clip. I then used the PEX ring to hold the strut sensor in "closed"postion & secured with duct tape. This solved my softtop issue. I do not recommend this if you are not the only driver of your vehicle, because chances are someone may try to open the top with the partion UP.

If the partition snaps firmly into place, then it may be the limit switch and not the gas struts. I have the parts listed here:
