Coolant Visit Workshop

Okay guys i know this has been discussed but my circumstances are a little different than other ones I've read. First off, i dont want to get flamed for this story because i see it all the time about people racing. But here we go. I was racing my buddies 350z Trac edition, hes got full bolt ons and an uprev tune. All i have is a Eurocharged Tune everything esle stock and he only put a half car length on me from 40-130 roll. ANYWAYS... after about 4 runs with him we pull up to the gas station when my "coolant visit workshop" light came on. I noticed right away before we pulled in my temp dropped from below normal then went back up, guessing maybe my thermostat got stuck open for a bit too long before closing? Im not sure, but i pop my hood, check for leaks (all is good ) open the reservoir (completely full) turn the car back on, lights still on. Turn it back off. Wait about 5 minutes and without my keys even in the car the fan starts running. I hop back in, turn it on and the light came off THANK GOD. Drives perfect, while driving it back all my temps were back to normal. My question is, is this something i should worry about coming back on? Its never came on before. But should i mention that my washer fluid has never worked ever since i got the car, i read somewhere that its all connected somehow? Just an fyi if that info is necessary to help me figure out if i have anything to worry about? Also, scanned car. 0 codes. Thanks guys you have always been helpful in the past and i really enjoy this forum!

Regular scanners won't find specific codes like that.

Washer fluid has it's own pump and heating element.

Coolant is possibly low, check level in reservoir.
Possibly threw a code if hitting a temp threshold.

thanks for reply but as i stated, i already checked reservoir. And as i said the code went off thankfully i was just scanning my car to see if there another underlining issue. Just wabted to know if i should worry of it coming back on or if my car was just doing its job since i was racing it pretty hard.

thanks again,
Derek

NO LONGER ACTIVE
My SL550 fan would run for a few minutes after switching the engine off and would run on high at idle when the engine was cold. It turned out to be a connection at the temperature sensor on the back of the engine.

Last year, I got the same message once, after about 40 continuous minutes driving at 120-140.

My coolant was ever so slightly low, hardly noticeable, and it was only when driving at sustained high speeds at near full throttle that the warning came up.

I later added some DI water, under a half-litre, and have not had the issue since. That same summer I did a trip through Europe and during so, did about 4 hours on the autobahn along the south west border, at 120+, and never got another warning up.

If it puts up a code, it could be a thermostat. Not to difficult to change, and depending on your miles, it might be good preventative maintenance. Just make sure all the hose are securely fastened and might as well replace them while your at it.

My 2009 CLK350 had a thermostat go bad about a month ago. I changed it and all seemed fine. Cleared the code, then took it out for a test drive. Around 10 minutes into a sustained 80 mph cruise, the dash lit up about coolant and suddenly I saw white smoke in the rear view mirror... Mild Panic....

Turned out that the hose from the thermostat to the radiator just blew off because I didn't have the clamp on correctly. (they can be slightly tricky to get on perfectly).

So I guess my point is to keep an eye on your temp, check your hoses, and top off the reservoir (which you said was good, but check it every few days just to be safe).

Nothing wrong with a little high speed fun! As long as it's as safe as possible and you're not swerving in and out of traffic. Best at night! Have fun, be safe!!

haha yes always at night! I live in texas so we have alot of really good straight aways and at night is the only time we race. I checked all my hoses, everything is good. I think my cars in the clear. But i might change my thermostat soon just so i wont have to later. My car has 117k on it now, just waiting for something to go wrong with the car isn't the best idea haha
