Dead spot on gas pedal!!!

All of a sudden I have a erratic dead spot on the gas pedal for the CLK350 cab. First time was on Sunday afternoon testing driving the car around the neighborhood. I slowed to let a car pass and when I put my foot on the gas pedal there was nothing. I then tried again and still nothing. Finally I believe I took my foot off the pedal and back on again and the car started moving fine. This morning the same thing happened but this time I noticed that it does it for what seems like about 15-20 seconds. Its not the same feel as a transmission slipping, its just I press the pedal and nothing. Not a clogged fuel filter as there is no sputtering or anything. I read on the CLS ad S-Class forum that some of those cars have issues with the gas pedal assembly. Also, I read a little about he TPS as well. No CELs by the way.

Replace the throttle position sensor.

Thanks Anker, What leads you to believe the TPS and not the pedal assembly?

Actually it could be either. I believe both are simple rheostats so its should be possible to test them both with an ohmmeter with the car shut off.

My guess is it would be throttle first..

since if it was TPS then it would have thrown a code as your gas pedal was asking for something the TPS was not showing and probably gone into LIMP mode to prevent uncontrolled throttle.

When it does not throttle up and you are givnig it throttle pedal - computer is not receiving signalfrom pedal and does not know.

I do suggest you check for DTC they can come up with out turning on light.

More often than not, it[s a bad accelerator pedal.
