2004 clk320 manual transmission swap ;)

I was looked at as if I had two heads when I ordered my manual w203. Worth the three/four month build wait...He looked at me as if I had three heads when I wanted a sport wagon. (Alas, he couldn’t order me a sport wagon...)
Love this!
Great work!
I hope you can get cruise working...
Just like I hope I can get my “advanced” cruise working...one or two ME clicks away...
There is no way thru developer mode to use Explizit or implizit coding to set it to manual gear box?! Or just use SDS to set a different region/ROW?
What if you set up/made a Rotary dial (hog out/use a newer Chrysler dial?) to fake out the automatic gear selector and you put it in “park and drive/neutral” as needed...electronically? Maybe even hog out and replace the Distronic dial in the convertible top switch row? ...although admittedly that’s a tight tight space and you wouldn’t want to destroy the PCB for top operation and CANBUS signals...

Yup, one side goes to connector #10 pin #6 (if i remember correctly) in front SAM and another to GND.
You asked the same question on YT, right? Or you need more information ?

Do you have to leave the spacer that was between the crank and automatic flywheel behind the manual flywheel?
That would push the complete clutch package back and maybe the clutch would disengage better.
Or maybe I have still air in the system.
Thanks for your help.

No I didn't not use that shim, according to EPC it only available for auto transmission.
Try beading the clutch again. What flywheel did you use?

I use the factory flywheel and got it resurfaced. I bought the modified clutch kit from Kentucky clutch and they did the resurfacing.
For the electronic, Josh from www.themercedesswashop.com took care of it, great guy and very helpful.

after looking for some info and its been fine.
Have just started the maintenance on it, after it's been sitting for 6 years, but it feels so wrong to not have a MT.
Would you guesstimate the process would be similar if not the same as your CLK320?
Would also be interested in your process to getting it smog legal, since it appears you are in California (NorCal?)

Yeah... smog check (yes, San Jose
) ..... almost impossible to pass with combo v8 and manual transmission.I did the manual swap here in NorCal and was able to pass smog check because combo v6 and manual transmission was certified in US (c320 manual, slk320 manual, etc).
I swapped v8 while I was leaving in Seattle (no smog check). When the car returned to California (SoCal, long story.... :-D) it didn't pass smog and didn't pass BAR referee, mostly because v8 and manual transmission was never certified by Mercedes for US (in particular mercedes never produced v8 with manual trasmission at least during the last couple of decades).
There was one story about a guy from California who was able to pass BAR referee with his v8 swappped Crossfire, but it was a long time ago, so probably there is a tiny chance that you could pass BAR referee somewhere in the middle of nowhere ....
Anyway feel free to ping me if you have any questions about all of that

Do you by chance know the plug part # for the 716 transmission's reverse switch - I have the switch attached to the transmission but don't have the plug/wiring side. Same ? on the clutch switch - need the plug/wiring to properly integrate for the start interrupt. I may have figured both out from the EPC but the descriptions are a bit vague and both plugs are several weeks out if I order - and may not be returnable.
(I'm swapping a 1998 C43 w/ a 5.4 and Wavetrac LSD btw.)

BTW at lease my ECUs (both v8 and v6) have no "start interrupt" feature ... ask me how I figured it out :-D

I've never played with ME2.0 so I'm not 100% sure how to code it, but with C3 you should be able to do it
I think I figured out the cruise control disengagement and the reverse lights. I'm guessing the starter interrupt will be tapping into one of the 722.6 shifter harnesses based on being in park - but haven't dug into that yet as my battery is disconnected. Will hopefully have the transmission mounted early next week and can then hook up the battery and start figuring that out. How did you handle the starter interrupt?
