Starting in the 2007 CLK350 Cabriolet, the new center console provides for two cup holders. However resting my arm on the skinny lip of the new center arm rest isn't very comfortable, and is even worse when the sliding console cover is back to expose the 2nd cup holder. Anyone have a solution to making this more comfortable? E.g. can the padded center arm rest from the 2006 model be installed instead of what is there now?

Yep, 99% sure that they are interchangeable.

Would it require just swapping out the arm rest portion, or would it require the entire center console including the arm rest to be changed?

I think it's going to be easier to buy entire center console to have all necessary parts.

If you'll need any photos ping me my interior disassembled so I have easy access to all center console's parts

It will require swapping the entire console. Personally, I had no problem with the comfort of "rollerblind" the armrest, but I never had it open to use the 2nd cupholder.
