trouble starting
I recently bought a 2009 CLK350 with 113,000 miles. Replaced the battery a few weeks ago and it starts easily. However, last week it began to have trouble starting. Turn the key and nothing, can't move the gear selector out of park. After a couple of key turns it will start and everything is fine. Batteries in the key fob test OK. What could be the issue here? Neutral Safety Switch? Brake Pedal Switch?
Thanks,
Thanks,

When you turn the key do the dash and warning light turn on?
If they do, what happens when you turn the key all the way to engage the starter. Do the dash lights dim? Does the engine crank?

Yes, with key in on position all instruments are illuminated. Turned key to start and instruments dimmed a tiny bit, and the engine started without a problem. The next time it won't start I will check the instrument panel lights and report.
Thanks

You are welcome. I hope everything goes well for you. I am experiencing a no start issue, for past 3wks. I change battery, checked fuseses and relays.
Now the new is dead, from the vehicle just sitting. I either have a short or a drain .

Reply to "check the alternator":
Engine off, battery shows 12.75 volts. Alternator output is 14.07 volts with engine turning 1800rpm. Not bad, right?
Have followed another's suggestion to clean the small circular area at the end of the smart key, and also the identical area on the ignition switch. So far so good.
thanks everyone.
