Oil accumulating in the front of air filter box

Hello,

Noticed my sons w209 2004 CLK320 was thirsty for oil and asking for 1 quart of oil quite often.

Oil is accumulating in front of both sides of the air filter box. I helped him locate the car in Oregon. He is leaving to go live in Northern CA and we wanted to get this fixed before he leaves on Tuesday, tomorrow.

Does this car have a crankcase breather at the back of one of the valve covers that will cause this if failed? Or if anyone has any experience or knows what causes this we would be VERY appreciative! We have been researching for a couple hours and can't seem to pin point it.

133,000 miles and in good shape. Working on a bunch of maintenance requirements.

Thank you in advance!

The M112 engine uses breather covers on top of the valve covers with vacuum hoses connected. Oil leaks on the breathers and valve covers are very common. The breathers are sealed with black RTV, but the valve covers use regular gaskets. Just make sure to use genuine MBZ gaskets for the valve covers as the aftermarket parts tend to be too thin. Any good black RTV works for the breather covers.

Appreciate the response. So leaking out of those breather covers will put oil out the box in that area? I did take off the air box big plate and the box is clean underneath, and has me puzzled.

I would have thought it would have been a bloody mess on the valve covers and the underside of the box.... hmmm

All cabin air is sucked through that box. Any oil coming out of those breathers can easily get pulled in there, especially if the foam gasket where the box seals against the firewall is deteriorated.
