I am planning to replace the struts (front and rear) and need to know if I have a sport suspension or not on my 2004 CLK 500 cabriolet. There is a button at the base of the shift handle that has a C or S which I think refers to sport or and c to comfort- so does that mean the car has a sport suspension ? Or is this irrelevant to the suspension type ?
The S and C do not refer to the suspension. C starts off in 2nd gear, S starts off in 1st.... The tranny shift points change, with S holding the gears longer... Also the reverse gearing changes. The 9 speed tranny is 7 forward and 2 reverse gear setups.
You can have someone on the forum check your VIN to tell you if your car has sport suspension. However I think it is more a matter of how you want the car to handle. Even if you d/n have the sport suspension option firmer struts will still work without issues.
Be aware that you cannot just change the shock absorbers to convert the car to sports suspension. You will also need the sports suspension links and the SS sway bar.... the sway bar link has a different stud diameter... so you cannot mix components.
I see you have the AMG styling and wheel package, but I do not see the AMG or Sport suspension package. It appears you have the standard suspension setup.
