All I want is a super smooth ride
2003 CLK 320
new shocks & springs.
Next up will be new wheels & tires.
Currently have brand new stock 17" snows and hate the ride but who cares winter will be over in 8 weeks.
My question is what size will give me the best ride assuming I am getting the best touring summer tire.
Will 16" be a better option???
FYI - I don't care about handling or the look or the "stance" LOL
thanks
PS. I have been driving for 39 years so I have bought a LOT of rubber

You need good quality tires. No cheap nonsense from BJ's or Walmart. Get on tire rack.com and filter out what you are looking for. More rubber the better and of course no run flats. Also, keep in mind these are coupes/sportier cars so it wont ever ride like a S Class or even a CL with ABC

For those uninitiated... explain. I run with cheap tires now (was broke) and will be replacing this year with some better quality... understand the staggered sizing, but which number are you varying from to get more rubber?

Your over all tire height should stay the same regaurdles of wheel diameter. If you are running a 16" wheel you will have more side wall and more give than say an 18" with with the same overall height. Quality tires a re a big relatively inexpensive upgrade but a "better" tire does not mean a better ride. Side wall stiffens is going to change the ride quality but also the handling capability. This is a CLK you are talking about though. it is a sportier car. never going to ride like an s class.
