ESP BAS ABS Display Faulty N47-5 no CAN communication
Hello,
I own a 2004 CLK 200 K (209.442) since februari this year. I bought the car as a project car with a lot of things wrong and very little history. The car has about 150.000 km and is running but not driving. The problem that I want to start this thread for is the following messages that appear in the display:
- Brake wear
- ESP Display faulty
- BAS Display faulty
- ABS Display faulty
When I use my iCarsoft MBII diagnostics tool I get the following messages:
B1051 The CAN signals sent from the control module instrument cluster with maintenance interval display are unreasonable. (Vehicle speed)
B1101 Fault in CAN communication with control module ESP
P1876 The signals sent by the control module N47-5(ESP control module) for the wheel speeds and the braking torque are not available on the CAN bus
P2012 The brake signal from control module N47-5 (ESP control module) is not available on CAN bus
P2310 One or more messages from control module N47 (Traction systems control module) are not available on the CAN bus
The ESP module does not show up in the list of available modules in the menu on the iCarsoft and the error messages seem to point out that the ESP module N47-5 is not available on the CAN bus. Because of that:
- The faults show in the display
- The roof will not open (car is moving it says)
- Can not move the gear shift from park. (because it does not detect the brake peddle being pressed)
I checked the CAN bus wiring from the N47-5 control module plug to the CAN connector in the drivers foot well and the two wires seem OK.
I checked the can bus signal with an oscilloscope and the signal seems fine.
I checked if one of the CAN-bus wires is connected to ground and they are not (as it should be)
I replaced the hydraulic pump and control unit for a pump and module with the same part numbers. No difference.
I checked the part number of the hydraulic pump and the control unit (N47-5) in EPC. The EPC system tells me that the hydraulic unit should be A0044316212 and the Control unit should be A0335453532 or A2095453132. Both parts in EPC are applicable to date 28/05/2004.or chassis T 033979. My chassis is T024202.
On the car I find hydraulic unit A0054310712 and control unit A2095452932. Can anyone tell me if these numbers are compatibel? Maybe the previous owner just threw the wrong part on the car?
If I look on e-bay and other parts sites I can nowhere find the EPC part numbers that should go on my car for sale. If I look up the part numbers that are available for sale in EPC, I can not find them. There are lots of Mercedes ABS pumps and control units available on eBay and they all look like they might fit. Is there some ABS pump expert here on the forum that can explain to me the logic between the part numbers and how you can tell which part numbers are compatibel with which car? Thank you for your help. I am sure there are more users struggling with this.

I had to buy a replacement N47-5 unit three years ago and created forum thread about it with details, video links and lessons learned. The link to the thread is located below:

Thank you for your response. Seems to me you ran into the same problem as I did being; is there a (web)resource that shows which ATE Mercedes ABS control modules are compatible.
When I search in EPC with only the vehicle code WDB 209442 it comes up with 16 partnumbers for the control unit. Some are depending on features of the car, some are limited to a certain chassis number/date.
The search continues.
