2004 CLK500 Oil Leak Mystery - Passenger side

Hi All,

I replaced the valve cover gasket on the passenger side, It was leaking pretty badly before I replaced it. It was getting oil on the back of the engine and on the back part of the exhaust manifold and was running down the engine. Now that it's been replaced, I do not see any leaking from it at all, however there is still a good amount of oil running down the side/back of the engine, making its way down the oil pan. I looked around under the car, thinking maybe it was the oil pan gasket leaking or the oil level sensor (I have the one that screws in from the bottom), but when I looked up above the oil pan, there was still some oil up there.

Here are my questions for you knowledable folks:

1. I drove about 3 hours total after replacing the valve cover gasket and still have oil coming down the side of the engine from above the oil pan. Could residual oil accumulate that much and take that long to run down?
2. Is there anything on the passenger side of the engine between the valve cover gasket and the oil pan that could leak? (Side note - it did not appear to be coming from the oil dipstick tube either - it was above that).

I'm stumped and frustrated, and hoping someone was able to figure this out and that it's something simple.

Thanks in advance.

You can check the air/oil separator and the cam plugs if you have them on the 500. The cam plugs would be on the rear of the engine near the top.

Thanks for the reply. I looked for those, but I didn't find either. i am familiar with the oil separator because I replaced that on my 2011 E350. On this car there appears to be some sort of emissions device in the same place. I felt around in the back of the head but didn't feel anything like a cam plug. I think I am going to try to figure out how to hang my phone so I can lower it down there and make a video.

If anybody else has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
