Weird creaking noise... sometimes
I wonder if anybody has had this issue. Seems to be happen when first driving, especially now that it's gotten colder. When I turn the steering wheel when moving at slow speeds, I hear a creaking noise coming from the front. My first thoughts are something to do with a rubber bushing. The weird thing though, is I hear and feel nothing abmormal when driving at speed. Also the sound goes away after the car is driven and warmed up. 2004 CLK500 Cab

If the sound only occurs when turning (and not necessarily only when going over bumps), it could be one or more of the front strut mounting components. I had my front struts replaced last year (but my mechanic didn't recommend replacing the mounting components), and I have a creaking-type noise when turning the wheel at slow speeds. And as you stated, the noises aren't discernable at highway speeds.
Here's a link to some of the components for reference: https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/473...nt-3086811KIT/
If the noise is most prominent when going over bumps (like a speed bump), then it might be the sway bar bushings. I don't know if the bushings are readily available by themselves; you might just need the whole sway bar (I did).

Here are a couple videos showing the noise in case anybody can pinpoint it.

Update for anybody who may be interested: It ended up being the strut bearings. I had the dealer diagnose and do it. $800
