I have just started tracking my car and I am in need of new tires. My current set up is michelin pilot sport 4s 225/ 35 r19 front and 255/30 in the rear. The tires handled great in my opinion. The issue was the heat build up. The hot pressure came to almost 48 lb hot! I started with a cold pressure of 35.
I was told by my instructor to consider smaller rim and a larger diameter tire to help with the heat build up. I have a set of 17" that I can run and choose any new tire I want. My question is if I go with a 17" will I have a problem with more roll over and thus suffer worse handling? 17" size considering- 225/ 45 front and 245/40 rear.
I want to keep the overall height the same on the car. From the 19 to the 17. The 17 are the original rims that were on the car.
Another benefit to 17"s is the tires are cheaper in these sizes for most of the tires I would consider. I am thinking of the 17's as dedicated to a track tire and 19's for off the track.
The answer may be that 18"are the sweet spot for the track. Any input would be very helpful!
The car is an 07 clk550
Thank you,
