Thermo fan starting after shutdown flattening battery.
I’m in a dilemma with my CLK 2004 cabriolet, it’s production code 805 making it a 2005, post facelift electrical with the M112 v6 and 5 speed auto.
My radiator fan keeps turning itself on. Sometimes hours after the car has been locked up and happens even if the engine hasn’t been started. When the engine is running it behaves as normal, stays off till engine is warm, comes on with A/C etc, turns off when engine is cool and turned off. Fan then stays off for a short time then sometimes just starts and goes up to full speed even with everything off and key out of ignition. Put key back in turn it to 2 and back off and out and it turns off only to startup again hours later.
I tried removing the fuse (engine fan 51) and it just stayed off for a few minutes then started up again, computer must’ve bypassed the fuse.
I also have the SRS warning and Brake switch warning on the dash.
It all started after I washed and vacuumed the car out. I had the engine fuse box open and a bit of water ran in, only about a tablespoon. I replaced 2 fuses in there that were previously empty. (Transmission electronics SE 61 and Telephone systems SE 44, mine does have the Nokia phone kit but no phone)
Everything was fine when I left the car that evening. Went to put something in it the following evening and it wouldn’t open. I used the emergency key to open it up and found the battery had about 2.4volts in it. I disconnected it and charged it over night then put it back in the following afternoon and it’s been like this ever since, a few days now.
I don’t have a scanner (yet, one is on the way) so am only going off what comes up inside the speedo.
I also checked all 3 fuse boxes for anything blown but all fuses were fine except fuse 30, the 40amp blower motor A/C, engine residual heat syst. SE, in the drivers side fuse box inside. It was blown but had signs of getting hot, slight melting. No idea if it happened recently or is from a while ago. It does look like it’s been that way awhile though.
Anyone coming across anything like it?
cheers,
Troy
Left the battery disconnected Wednesday night with the battery charger attached to the battery. Didn’t touch the car Thursday as it was raining, it was left on charge.
Bought a replacement 40amp fuse Friday on the way home to replace the slightly melted A/C fan fuse.
Replaced the fuse and reconnected the battery Friday arvo when I got home and the fan stayed off like it’s meant to and has been behaving like normal ever since.
The SRS warning remained as well as the Brake light warning.
Went for a drive today, Saturday and the brake light warning was on for awhile then went off and didn’t come back. Just got to reset the SRS now and I’m back to normal again.
