Another top problem

The top has stopped working on my 2008 CLK 350. I hear the windshield lock move and it starts to lift, then stops. The rear bow raises and the tonneau cover begins to lift and then everything stops. I have reviewed tons of threads on these issues but havent found anything specific to my issue. I was also emailing with Klaus at Top Hydraulics, Inc (thank you so much, Klaus) and he suggested I check the connections and rider on the left case cover cylinder as the hydraulic fluid was dead center so he thought microswitch. When looking at it, everything appears to be plugged in and the rider appears secure. So at this point Im at a loss. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, and ended up taking the car to the MB dealer (Wilsonville, OR). After the diagnosis, it turned out to be 2 (yellow) relays located close to the pump… I ended up paying for the diagnostic, plus two $12 relays.

Hopefully, your problem is as simple…

I was reading about that this morning. I’m not far from you (Camas) and was about to head to the Washougal Autozone for new relays. Fingers crossed.

Sadly, new relays did not solve the problem. Guess Ill have to pay for diagnostics to be safe.

The MB part number of the 2x relays used on my repair is 002 542 74 19

Also, FYI, if the trunk lid is not working be aware the assist system will stop responding after certain number of failed attempts… and it has to be “re-normalized” at the dealer for it to work again.

Good to know. I appreciate it. It does pop up and back about an inch. Hopefully that’s enough to avoid having it cease operation.

I just needed a new hydrolic actuator. It was like $600 from MB, so about $900 total at my BOSCH place.
