Loud thump when top is lowered and cover closes
Hi I’m new to The forum and I have a question about when I lower my top and the cover comes down there’s a loud thump when it closes. Sometimes it won’t close all the way. Same thing for when I put the top back up when the back glass goes back down it sounds loud thump. Any ideas?

Same issue here. Tried to lubricate everything I could see in the mechanism, but still thumps when closing. Seems too loud for such a nice car.
Any insights are appreciated...

My 2004 Cabriolet did the same except mine closed all the way as normal. Dealer and shop told me nothing was wrong and it was actually just the way the car was made. Very disappointing and not very MB like. My honest to God guess is that the boot lid cover might be misaligned?

2006 CLK 500
I experienced the same thumping problem on my '06 when the roof was closing. Couldn't see what the problem was. Eventually, the top failed to come up altogether and I had to replace the entire pump with a new one. Before the failure, the pump's fluid chamber was showing full, so still no clue as to why it failed.
