Angry W211 AMG wheels not fitting PLEASE HELP ME :(

Hello all,

I just purchased a 05 clk500 and I thought an updated set of amg rims would refresh the look of the car considering the wheels on it are very curb rashed. The rims I bought are OEM Mercedes rims from a 2008 - 2009 E550 sport, they are a staggered set. For some reason the guy I bought the rims from put 235/40/18 all around so the rears look hilarious .

18" by 8.5" ET 38 Front
18" by 9.0" ET 39 Rear

After reading the official fitment thread I learned that my offset in the front for a 8.5 wheel should be about ET30 or less so I bought hub centric spacers from
venom wheels accessories venom wheels accessories
on amazon. The set is 10mm all around and accompanying bolts specially designed for the w209.

The issue I encountered in the front was the bolts would seem to bottom out and the wheel would still have a lots of play. I assumed that the aftermarket bolts are just too long so I attempted using the oem bolt which is about a 1 cm shorter with the new amg rim and spacer and I had the same result of the rim still having lots of play after the bolt bottoming out.

What on earth did I F up and how can I get these damn rims on the car? Your help is appreciated!

The wheels are et 38 and for a 18 by 8.5 wheel this just wouldn't fit as per the fitment thread, they need 10mm spacers to bring down the offset to 28. Any ideas?

W211 wheels have a different ball seat radius than the 209 wheels (R14 vs R12) I'd recommend getting R14 bolts with M12x1.5 threads. Also, I'd measure the amount that the oem 209 bolt sticks out of the back of the oem wheel. Do the same with the 211 wheel with the spacer installed. The difference between that measurement and the OE setup is how many mm you'll need to add or subtract to get the shank length needed for your new setup. I'm pretty sure the 209 factory lugs are quite a bit longer than the 211, could be your issue.

Did some research and I did see what your talking about, the factory lugs for w209 are R12 seat and for w211 it is R14. I took some measurements of the aftermarket lug and it has a shank of 50mm. Most importantly the ball seat is R13 which is right in between, from what it seems like after doing some reading it should be alright to use R13 bolts on a R14 rim?

So when I put the w211 rim with 10mm spacer on my car and bolted it up with the accompanying aftermarket lug which is R13 M12x1.5 lug there was so much extra thread that the wheel had wiggle room after the bolt bottomed out. At the time I figured that if the aftermarket bolt was too long than and that the shorter w209 oem bolt should not be too long, so I attempted to use that one on the w211 rim with spacer. I still had the same result if not worse. The reason for that result, regardless that the oem bolt is shorter than the aftermarket, is that the oem bolt being R12 slipped too far in to the R14 rim pocket (did not seat properly).

After some more measurements of the width of the wheel, spacers, and hub I contacted Venom Wheel Accessories and asked for shorter bolts. I have 45mm shank length bolts on the way, I will update if that works for me. Cheers

Ok so I got the 45mm shank bolts and had the same issue. So I said f it and just zipped em in with an air impact, seemed fine till I test dove it. There was a loud clunk and scrape noise.

After lifting the car I realized the bolts are so long that they extended through the hub and scraped the heat/dust shields. Took a metal pipe and used it to bend the shields back to increase clearance. That solved the issue. My parking brake was never working as the cable is broke but if your is working this length of bolt may cause an issue. atleast having too long of a bolt is better than too short. But the rims do really suit the car!

post some pics of the wheels. I have an w211 e63 and have two sets of wheels. Im sending my CLK 55 wheels to get refinished and wanted to
use the extra w211 set in the mean time. Knew i needed spacers but didn't know about the bolt difference.
