Unhappy Volvo, er CLK 500

I know this has been hashed over many times, but I got this week's AutoWeek with the CLK500 on the cover and even they say it looks like a Volvo from the back.

They screwed up the new 911 when they made it narrower in the rear, but it looks like they are finally acknowledging it and fixing the problem a little (see the wider body new 4s).

I hope Mercedes realizes their mistake and fixes it in the '04 or '05 models. However, given the direction of the company I doubt this will happen.

I wonder if I could drop my present CLK body on the new platform?? That would be a really great car (best of both worlds).

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
Ibanez;

Points well taken. The C4S is an aesthetic triumph.

Before executing your body/chassis -- 208/209 -- transplant suggestion however, I would like to see, feel and drive the 209.

I'd hate to admit as I kinda like new CLK, but from the back 3/4 view it does look like a Volvo. Even the rear lights bear strong resemblance. Check it for yourself

Yes...and of course, the ACURA CL falls into the same category. I drove the CL-S w/260HP and 6 stick & OnStar, all for $34,000 and Acura's legendary quality!!

YES! To sum it up:

Superb Bose audio system! Close to Lexus Levinson's, much better hi-fi quality than my CLK55. OnStar is better than MB Comand.

Driving: Great,... but NOT close to my CLK55 AMG.

Here are two reviews, Car & Driver/Road & Track:

All...

I think all is a little too optimistic. Maybe some will think it is.

I own one... and once you get used to the straight line acceleration, you start to feel the car's weight... in a bad way.
Another this is the squeaking, rattling and road noise...... it starts getting on your nerves at about 3 to 5k miles and its still bugging the crap out of me till now. I do love the body shape even if it is a little bland. Handling is mediocre and you sometimes feel like you are going to break away from the road at the most inoppourtune moment - and yes i do own a type S, the sporty version with the improved handling .
Just by the way, Honda of America has cumpunctions about killing your resale value, they were selling 2003 monels really early this year, so the 2001's value warced down earlier than it should.
Anyway, all in all, i wouldnt buy an acura again.

Just my $0.02

Shoulda listened to my dad and bought the C Class or CLK.....:o
