P2422 (0954) Y58/4 charcoal canister shutoff valve permanently closed
My 2008 CLK350 has been bugging me with this error for a while. The charcoal canister is fine, both the shut-off valve and the purge valve works properly under voltage, and responds to actuation from my scanner. I haven't found any vacuum leaks (which isn't to say there aren't any) and there's zero other codes that would indicate anything. Lately though my car started to be very erratic in terms of engine performance, my gas mileage is disastrous and I mainly feel the lack of torque accelerating at slow speeds and uphill. Here's what I tried so far and random bits of information:
- new plugs and coils
- no signs of head or valve cover gasket leaks
- intake runners are intact and respond to actuation (also there seems to be no correlation to rpms being under or over 3500 so I really want to rule out intake manifold flaps)
- purge valve clicks like a mf so it _may_ be on its way out
- maf cleaned and all air ducts and hoses reseated, even throttle body got a new gasket
- air box not clogged, filters are clean
- I suspect maybe a cat might be clogged but can't verify, knocking them doesn't sound like anything is loose.
I really am eternally grateful for any and every bit of advice you can give me, my wife has been talking about selling the car which I'd love to avoid. Thank you very much!
