Adaptive Headlight for 2005 CLK500?

Hi all,

I am gonna buy a car in this month, and I am interested in buying a CLK500.

I have one question....

Is the "adaptive headlight" (those "turning headlights") avaiable on the CLKs?

Thanks.

No, unfortunately it isn't. Only the 2005 320's has "cornering fog lights" that light up under 25 mph for turns. Not sure why they have it on the 320's and not the 500. Kinda sad that a 55k+ car doesn't have this feature huh?

I don't think it is sad that a car (no matter what it costs) doesn't come with that feature...it is just another not needed gadget that can brake down...we retrofitted active cornering lights in my friends 2003 E55 and it really isn't that great...every now and then this active feature is irritating and anoying...

greetingz,

I can only assume that it has something to do with the profile of the bumper not allowing the foglight to turn or restricting the advantage due to vlocking the light !

Did I make sense !! []

Yeah I figure its a pretty useless feature too and it certainly wouldn't turn me off a whole car !!

I meant the adaptive headlight feature that is on the E-class and most of the Lexus'. Now that is a feature I would find quite useful and adds to safety - especially on those long bends on highways at night. The fog lights are a cheap alternative that really doesn't make up for the lack of the adaptive headlights.

Ahh I didn't even realise the "E" had this feature !!

Like the old Citroen DS in the 50's !

Yeah I see why you'd consider that to be useful, but again it wouldn't change my mind !

New corner-illuminating front foglamps

On my new CLK 200k (December 2004) I had as an option the Bi-xenon lights which come along with heated headlamp washers and the new corner illuminating front headlamps which i've just discovered few days ago (in the beginning i thought there was a problem). This works as follows:
The new corner-illuminating front foglamps can better illuminate a curving roadway ahead by monitoring your steering wheel angle and driving speed (up to 25mph) i.e. when the lights are on either in auto or in position three (high beam) without lighting up the fog lights, when i turn the steering wheel to the right, the right fog light is turned on and after i turn the steering wheel to the left the right fog light is turned off and the left fog light is turned on
Also they can be activated by your turn signal to brighten your way into a driveway or alley (right turn signal - right foglight, left turn signal - left fog light).
There's nothing special about it!!!!!!

I think driving not "ahead" of your headlights is much more safe than having the headlights turn a few degrees. I don't find the headlights improve vision around corners much for my driving (city or rural mountain). The xenons already have such a wide angle of view, turning them doesn't give you much, and the moving angled cutoff is more irritating.
