What is Parktronic?

Hi
  1. Is parktronic the same as Park Assist where the car parks itself?
  2. Did the 2004 CLK500 C209 come with this as an optional extra???
Thanks in advance

Parktronic is basically MB's term for the parking sensors and the system that goes with it.

As said above, Parktronic is just the brand name for the ultrasonic parking sensors in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. No active parking assist or anything. Just the basic parking sensors. Active Park Assist etc. would be in addition, as well as cameras etc. Don't know what year Active Park Assist was first introduced, but cars that have it, have a blue P symbol in the instrument cluster with arrows pointing left/right at slow speeds whenever it detects a big enough space to park, and then the active parking assist can be engaged. Not sure this was available for the CLK. Here's an older screen shot from a CLA to show how it may look.

W209 CLK 240
Parktronic continues to amuse me over a year into ownership of my '03 CLK. Over engineered or over complicated? Not sure which applies. Everyone else goes for regular audible sensors but MB goes for this funky system of displays, lights and warning sounds. I particularly like the rear one perfectly positioned for viewing in the rear view mirror.

I'm looking forward to forgetting all of MB's marketing nonsense. My EQE owner's manual makes no distinction between "parking assist" and "Parktronic" (TM):

... and just to add that I'm not talking about the ACTIVE park assist where you have to ACTIVELY respond to beeps. I'm talking about the PASSIVE park assist where I sit back passively and let the car park itself.

For crying out loud, how stoopid are MB employees? I'd need a frontal lobotomy to make sense of this Parktronic (TM) gibberish.

Apparently the terminology and its meaning changed over the years for newer MBs.... and in a way like you mentioned... more complicated. CLK's Parktronic however, probably just means Parktronic.
