How does ESP work?

I understand that the 1st generation of traction control used to apply brake to control wheel spin. I remember this from a Crown Victoria long time ago. Did they improve on the technology over the years?

I read it somewhere that the modern traction control system actually reduces excess engine power to control the wheel spin. What does MB use?

The modern ESP systems do much more than just reduce engine power. They increase/decrease torque and brake force to INDIVIDUAL wheels.

They are powered by a bunch of sensors with complex algorhythms.
