parking/fog lights stay on after locking car...
...for 5 minutes it seems. Anyone know how to change this so they don't stay on this long? I can't seem to find it in the manual or using the search feature.

Not sure about 2001 but in 2003 you can definitely change the settings using the steering wheel buttons to get into the menu.
When I had my W208 I think the lights stayed on after I used the headlights. In my W209 the lights only stay on if I have the switch set to "AUTO".
Hope that helps?

Of course mine was a 1999 model. If that makes a difference?

I have an 02 ... but I think it is the same as yours ... anyway ... when I purchased the car a few yrs ago ... the head light was reprogrammed by the MB mechanic when he had the Star Diagnostic Software hooked up to the car.
The mechanic was going thru all the submenus ... he fixed the window on the passenger side ... wasn't going up and down like it is designed to do when you open and close the door ... anyway ...
There is a screen ... I don't remember which one ... but if memory serves me well ... the lights staying on are part of the alarm ... submenu ... I also had my second key programmed ... that was the reason the car was in the dealership ... the spare key was "warranted" by the dealership and had to be reprogrammed.
Later, I never complained because I was glad the lights were staying on only about 5 seconds and I was glad of the change ... but I'm sure it was only due to the MB mechanic using the Star Diagnostic being hooked up to the car.
I'm sure if you find a "saavy" competent MB mechanic ... he can find this for you and reprogram it.
