01 CLK 55 AMG Performance Modifications?

I am new to the Group and would like to know the group’s opinion on performance chips for a 2001 CLK 55 AMG. The only one I can find is Renntech's at $1795.00 with a 10 HP gain but less than 3 tenths of a ¼ mile performance gain. Has anyone tried this modification or another vendors? Also, is there a list of posted ¼ mile times for our cars stock and modified? Any advise on launching the car using the brake and gas at the same time? Can the ESP be shut-off completely via a code? Basically, I am looking for people who can point me in the right performance direction or to a website with posted information. I used to race an Eagle Talon TSI AWD that was highly modified and the information above was readily available but I can’t seem to find it for the 55 AMG. Thank you for your help.

Congrats on the ride and welcome

Performance increases on the W208 CLK55 are expensive, compared to many other types of cars. I'll let others here give you their experience with chips, pullies and other performance mods.

Several of us have been to the drags and are familiar with launching the 55:

1. ESP off
2. Roll throttle gradually but firmly, when you feel the tires grip, hammer down!
3. Let the transmission shift itself

Have fun

Stock 1/4 times range from low 13s to mid 13s.

Evosport Powerchip & Launching Technique

A few follow-up questions: First I see that www.Evosport.com now sells the Powerchip for the CLK 55 for around $1190.00 with a max Hp of 365 and torque of 402 lbs. Is this a reputable company? Second, is launching the car with the throttle at around 4000 and the brake on not faster than the slow role and slam? I don't want to damage the car but it seems like automatics can take advantage of not dropping the clutch but still having high revs since we can brake while we rev? Thanks for your help

Too much wheelspin....if you're running stock 245s in the rear, this will be painfully obvious soon enough.

I have not done any engine mods, but several here have and can advise accordingly

YES Evosport is a reputable company!! I don't work for them but have dealt with them a few times and they are Second of all how deep are your pockets for modding? If you've got a pocket like an ATM cash dispenser click here...Kleemann USA.
Or just click on my sig below. Chappy alreay knew that one was coming right? :p

JamE55 makes an excellent point. What it costs to mod your DSM would probably only get you into a body kit for the 208

German muscle is very intoxicating, but pricey

If you want to do some serious damage forget the chip and find a used Kleeman blower (or new if you have the cash), a Kleeman Supercharged CLK 55 can run 1/4 miles in the 12-11 sec. range

I have pretty much the same motor and I went with Powerchip and got 15 wheel hp and 15 wheel Tq, not bad and I think it is about $1100. I also got 6 wheel hp with Evo pullies. I think I might switch out my K&N's with GreenFilters.

Thumbs up

If you want performance you go to the HPS supercharger website. Their supercharger system alone has bigger gains than those staged kits fom Kleemann and Renntech. The supercharger has a custom intake with the superchager mounted ontop just like the new stock Benz's. HPS is pushing 7lbs boost with 150 gains. Also the guys at HPS are very helpful(Andy is the sales guy) and they know some people doing custom parts that produce gains, are just as nice as the german import stuff, have high quality standards, and are cheaper. Their techs will also guide you through ideas about other upgrades. Check them out. Their supercharger is about 1/2 price of the other german sellers.
