Kind of sick, but there will be a lot of salvage parts "flooding" the market soon.

Water damaged cars often have to be totaled and sold for salvage. When I was a kid in Chicago I remember some flooding in Ohio produced a lot of opertunites. Sleaze ***** would buy entire cars, clean them up, and sell them to unsuspecting buyers. That has gotten a lot harder, with many states working together with insurance companies so that owners and salvage purchasers of totaled cars have to surrender the original title for a "salvage title."

The entire engine out of a flooded E55 would be too much of a hopeless project, but I am thinking it might not be that hard to clean up and selectively replace parts of a kompressor system...

Sorry for starting a new thread...

Scrolling down I now see that SkyTop already started one pretty much on this topic.

The Sunday after Rita "hit" Houston I was driving by one of the biggest MB dealers in town, and the lot was empty! Because of the fear of wind and flood damage they had moved all of their cars. Short of LA dealers, I don't think there will be a lot of flooded new cars from dealers hitting the market. Now.. cars that were left in driveways in homes in Lake Charles and NO, those parts may start appearing on Ebay.

yup, it was empty here in MBSugarLand. I think they move all their cars to the higher floors in parking garages.
