Stock Pad Size for 208 CLK55?

What is the stock size suspension pads our cars come with?

Thanks,

Learso

...I just came back from the dealer, was picking up a car cover. Anyway, the front pads measure about 17mm in the front ( a #4 pad) stock for the 208 CLK55. I bought a #2 pad that measures 9mm to lower the front a bit less than 1/2 inch. One inch is about 25.4mm. The car will need an alignment because I am changing the height of the car. Should look better, will post pics if you wish. Although I am quite happy with the Euro-spec springs, the front did seem still a bit too high for my taste.

Learso..

Learso,

Mine came with a #4 pad as well in front. When I had the springs done last year, I went with the #2 in front.

Hi Chappy,

Thanks for the info. I learned today that mine as well came with #4 in the front, I too replaced them with #2s, which the dealer conveniently had in stock...$17 bucks each. I think that the back has about 13mm, or #3s (?). I have seen posting of going with #1s in the back but the dealer told me that #1s did not go normally for CLK55s but for rather for the other CLK models, any comment on that? I will wait to see how it looks to go forward with the back. But I am curious to see if I will have to lower the back. Being 8mm lower in the front may mean better aerodymanics and stability???

I am curious to know why so many different sizes in pads?

Thanks again,

Learso

I use the #1 pad in the back. Here are the part numbers used for my CLK:

front A-210-321-02-84 (9 mm)
rear A-210-325-01-84 (5 mm)

Note my #1 pad number is slightly different.

Hope this helps

The pads are used to even out the fender gaps from the factory. It's not uncommon to see cars with different size pads at each corner from the factory. Mine came with #3's all around, and I'm sure other cars came with differing setups.

What Type Of Springs, Shocks & Pads

I see that you may have replaced your springs. I am wondering what the members recommend as some of the better replacement springs to purchase for our cars? I have a 2001 CLK 55 AMG with about 50,000 miles. It may be time to upgrade the springs. I have had H&R springs before and liked them. Any suggestions for: (1) shocks, (2) springs and (3) pad sizes would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I will be purchasing new tires- probably the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and believe I can put 235 upfront and 255 on the rear but what about 265 in the rear? I have the original 17 monoblock wheels on the car. Thanks for your help.

I have the Euro-spec AMG springs, recommend by Chappy on this board. Although I liked the thought of getting H&R as well, I really like the ride feel of the AMG springs but wanted just to bring down the ride as well. The euro spec AMG springs have done that, about .75-1 inch total down. The pads are minimal in contributing to this. I replaced my #4 pads in the front with #2 and I can tell the difference but I think it's because I am a perfectionist, most would not. My car has about half an inch gap now with 18" mono-block IIs, would like that gap to come down to about .25 of an inch but I may not be able to get there so I will probably keep my set up as is. My ride seems to settle and come down a significant amount when driving it for long periods of time and when I have a passanger. I do not touch anything right now and I want to leave it at that.

I also recommend PS2s for tires.

Good luck!

Learso
