Xenons not that bright ?

always wanted Xenons on a car, and now i have my 55 with them. So a little dissapointed when they didn't seem that bright :-( the car is a 2000 is there anything that can be done to improve them, do they need any maintenance? or is just that yr 2000 was a wee bit early for xenons and it was more novelty than real brightness ?

Change your hid bulb out to Phillips 4300K for the brightest white or Phillips 6000K if you like some nice color

xenons from what i've remember have been out since 96' on the lincoln marks. Maybe there positioned to low and need to be adjusted to the correct height. Or you might want to get a bulb a little higher(maybe 6000K) then the standard bulb you have now which is(4300K D2R)

Ok so i'm totally new to xenonx then i had presumed that they were't just a bulb but i guess they are. so if i want to look for these on the web what do i need. is there a special merc fit or is it standard and is it just searching for HID 6000k bulbs ?

They aren't just a bulb, xenon kits need a ballast/igniter to work...but you already have that. All you would need to do (if adjusting the height doesent work) is just change the bulbs.

Xenon lights

Hi Simbad,

With regards to your disappointment with the xenon lights on your 2000, it might be that you are comparing the light output from a projector type of xenon headlight on another car/model in comparison to yours which has a reflector implementation. In my opinion projector systems put out much more light than reflector-based systems. Most new cars today use projector systems. Unfortunately I have a '02 E55 which also uses the reflector system.

Just thought I would shed some "light" on your subject.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

I think the last post from Tracy was more on the mark with what you are experiencing. The lights you have are fine and are bright but xenon lights up things differently than traditional lights, its meant to be brighter without being a strain on your eyes. As for as changing them, know that the range in output does NOT mean brighter lights, just different color. I think you should give the car some time and then see what you think.

um...like i said before....it could be the adjustment. Our CLK has xenons(reflective housing) and there just fine. Of course projectors would be better...but it wouldnt hurt to check the height adjustments on the headlights

i drive an ///M6
one possibility is that , over time, the outside of the lens of the headlamp gets scratched, scuffed, and "sandblasted" form the elements of driving. this will definately distort your light output, even with a new bulb.
