"Reduce Oil Level"?
What can be done if while driving you get an alert to Reduce Oil Level? The error is cleared when engine is restarted. I then checked the oil level using the instrumentation and it reported the oil level is fine. So what does this mean and what do I need to do?

This happened to me a few months ago when I had my oil changed at the dealership. everything was fine at first then five minutes down the road I get this red alert message and beep saying to reduce oil level. So now I'm like what the hell? I have to turn around and drive back to the dealership. Service manager said that he had to take some oil out. He also said he couldn't figure out why it did that since they put the correct amount of oil in the car. his theory was that the oil expanded as the engine got hotter and it caused the reduce oil warning. Sounds like crap to me. Wouldn't Mercedes already correct for the heat effects on the oil level?
Either way, after they removed some oil it has been fine ever since....no warnings.

A dealer overfilled the sump??? Sounds like you got the apprentice wrench. A 911 holds "about" 11 quarts. If you change the oil in one and dump 11 quarts in, you'll probably have problems. The CLK probably has the same "issue". After draining the oil I was taught to fill it minus one quart. Oil expands when it gets hot, so I always take my cars for a short drive. I come back home after the oil is hot and then top it off. Any factory trained mechanic should know this.
