70 C / 160 F Thermostat
Hi Folks:
I've been working on a 70c / 160 f replacement thermostat . So far it will fit a CLK-55 with a M-113 engine , The factory piece is 87 c / 189 f
Opinions , is it needed? Thanks ___PTE___

This was the alleged performance set up for another marque in the 1980s. Then it was discovered that the ECU refused to fully advance the timing until the engine was completely warmed up.
I have no idea what a Bosch Motronic 2.8 ECU does when it thinks the coolant temperature is below normal.

MarcusF; , Here's a comment from the E-55 side , and if you can get a MD tech that knows Star Diag . they can change the radiator suchion fan trip limit , to a lower temp setting. You will notice the engine runs cooler with the A/C on!

First, it's going to suck in winter time as the car will have a hard time maintaining temperature. Been-there, done-that with other low-temp thermostat applications.
Second, the ECU calibration needs to be adjusted so the car doesn't get stuck in "cold-start" mode (for lack of a better description) and run rich as heck thinking it still needs to warm up.
If you can overcome these obstacles (mainly the second one) it could prove a very worthwhile, and cost-effective mod.
PTE made one for me so I have been able to data log and get some feed back. The car idles at about 167-173 with the ac on and 188 to 192 ac off.
When cruising ac on or off, the temp drops to 165. According to my data logger cold start mode turns off at about 130-140 degrees. The o2 sensor voltage and fuel trim changes around there and looks identical to factory thermostat. Big thumbs up from me so far.
