thanks for posting the pics guys that has at least give me some time to plan out what i am going to do.
Thats what the guy at the Midas shop told me. He said if he removes a Cat he has to replace it with a Cat....no choice in the matter. He didn't say why but I didn't ask. He made himself very clear.

thats the type of job that needs to be paid in cash, no reciept... All modern cars have at least 2 catalytic converters...

Usually it goes something like... Engine, exhuast manifold, o2 sensor, catalytic converter, secondary 02 sensor, secondary cat..., sometimes a resonator, muffler

Resonators are installed to make luxury cars more quiet... purely a fluff part...

Removing the cats, while bad ***, can also be obnoxiously loud, but with a muffler still installed, it might just make it sound really bad ***, one of you needs to bite the bullet so that you can get a sound clip of it... so everyone else can follow...

I just removed my secondary cats and resonator on my C43 yesterday. It sounds amazing. I'll try to post a video within a few days.

Here is a picture of the removal. I weighted the whole thing and its 31lbs. This was replaced by straight pipes and a y pipe at the end. Car sounds like a beast and its def a bit quicker off the line. Will take a picture of under the car possibly tonight, my brother has the car or else I'd do it now.

Do you have emission tests up where you live? If not, then you can remove the cats and not worry about it. Go to any performance shop and they will be more than happy to replace it with a straight pipe instead of a cat. What I would suggest though is to get 2 universal high flow cats and replace your secondary cats with those. Replacing the secondary cats will make the car louder.

Yes we have emissions testing in Connecticut. Probably don't want to mess with the Cats.

i am not touching the secondary cats. i think an aftermarket muffler: magnaflow, dynomax, borla, flowmaster, etc. will achieve the desired result. i will have mine done in the next couple of weeks. i will try and post some pics and a sound clip. i am not wanting a roaring monster (i have that with my GTI - 3in exhast under 25lbs of boost).

CLK 55 AMG 2005 and CLK 63 AMG cab.2007 - 2009 EVO - 2013 ML63 AMG - 2018 G63 AMG
After reading this thread I decided to remove my resonator to give
it a little more sound.

WOW, great mod!! easy and fast, took 20 mins and 70$ at the muffler shop.

The sound is great, a little louder but not to much

It's worth it !

PS: I have a CLK 55 AMG 2005

Ok
Guys as some of you know i have done my own creation,of what i wanted my system to sound like.
I have left the secondary cats in place, trust me,no need to remove those.
Right after the cats,i have put on two mufflers/cans in place, they were welded on(right after the cats)from there there's 2 mandrel bent pipes that made their way to the left and right side of the car,two tips were welded on on each side.Yes the bumper needed to be cut into, but it was dine clean and nice.
Here's the result:

it becomes a legal issue, and if a shop removes a cat they need to replace it with another.
Unless you know a shop that wont care.Or they just take your cats off, they clean them out and put them back on.And then also you need to have someone that will smog it for ya.

I don't need a master mechanic to cut out a resonator. Cut here and here....done. I wanted to go somewhere that wouldn't charge an arm and a leg.

So does the 2005 CLK have a resonator or did you remove the secondary cats?

Yes the 2005 CLK 55 AMG have a resonator and 2 cats.

You can easily see the resonator after the 2 cats.

Hi,

I'm thinking about deleting the second cat and just welding a straight pipe in insted. Mine is a V6 but wit the factory sistem it's very muffled. I know it's not going to sound like a 55 or 63 but if it gets a bit louder that might just brighten my day a bit

Pre facelift w209 clk55 (03-04) do not come with a resonator. Primary to secondary, to muffler
