Tnx! Well put - however it must be narrowed to the 2002 CLK55 AMG. Here is why:
I was at out favorite MB dealership today and picked up the new 2003 CLK brochure.
On page 21 (CLK AMG) and page 31(specification) it states clearly:
0-60 mph acceleration is 5.0 seconds!
The 2003 CLK55 AMG Coupe is slower than my "way of life" the 2002 CLK55 AMG, which MB rated conservatively 0-60 mph as 4.9 seconds.
Hopefully this will lay to rest the previous 0-60 km times for the metrically challenged!!
Additionally, as discussed many times, I prefer the CLK 208 design over the new 209 - by far.
That's why I proudly say:
The 2002 CLK55 AMG Coupe is the best car ever produced since Karl Benz patented the world's first motorcar in 1886, which is considered as the official birth certificate of the first motor car!

I think the supercharger is superfluous. Since I am NOT a NASCAR driver, I prefer the naturally aspirated AMGs. 400 HPs would be fine for the weighty 2 tons + SL. 500 HPs is overkill.
MB added this 500 HPs supercharged AMG engine to compete with Turbo Porsches, Vipers, Ferraris, Aston Martins...
The new SL is an aesthetic triumph. Unfortunately, for me it's too short, - not enough legroom.
