Looking towards a brake job soon

I was starting to do some research after I got my calipers painted today and noticed that my pads are getting down there. I would like to find options for rotors, but I am not finding much for the 02 AMG. I would like to find a cross drilled rotor. Any suggestions on rotors and pads? Obviously I want the miracle pads, no squeak, no dust and strong stopper.

Is there another body style, I can search under that uses the same parts?

Been reading around and searching and found some good things about the EBC Red Stuff pads. Has anyone used these and have feedback. Also does the 02 CLK55 has the 13.6" rotors correct. I know am supposed to swap them out too so I was looking around and really can't find a clear winner or suggestions.

Correct, 13.2" (335mm) fronts and 11.8" (300mm) rears. You may want to mic the rotors before committing to change them. The reason being that you may find the rotors are well within spec and only have to be changed every other brake job.

It's also a good time to flush the fluid, unless you’re already on a annual or biannual schedule.

Thanks, I guess I can run them down to my tire buddy and see if he can do that. If I do pads do I need to turn the rotor too?

Anyone feed back on the ECB Reds?

My Mercedes rotors are treated exactly as my Porsche rotors were - if they've got to be turned, they're thrown away. My procedure is to check the specs on the rotors. If they're worn beyond spec or have severe ridges they're tossed.

Why?
  • Turned rotors warp much faster than new rotors.
  • If you look at the cost of turning rotors, and compare that to the cost of new rotors, new rotors are dirt cheap. I can afford dirt.
  • After turning the rotors, they should be mic'd again. Many times they're right at the limit, which means they've got a good chance of being warped in no time.
  • Turned rotors run hotter than new rotors. Hot rotors can cook the pads. Cooking the pads can melt the glue that holds the friction material to the backing plate. Once that glue melts, the pads are toast. Then a brake job is needed - again.
Now that's just why "I" don't turn rotors. Many people do and have good results. On the upside, turning the rotors does save a little money.

I agree, rotors are not that spendy. I am really having trouble finding firm answers though on supplies. I would like to find drilled but they usually don't list CLK55. Is there another model that has the same size, bolt pattern and such that I could use instead?

Let me know what you find. I'm in the hunt for some new front rotors too.
