the last thing i would suggest u do is let the "stealership" do brake work (or any labor for that matter) for u...i was quoted 2k for brake work last year, needless to say that was the last trip i took the service center for service...took the car to my mechanic, got it done for 700...front n back rotors n all...all he did was call the dealership n order the SAME a$$ parts....1300 dollars saved and a few hours later, car was done...

If you don`t know how to do brakes, then don`t do them. Get a friend who`s a mechanic or an independent and change the fluid also if it`s due. The stealers charge a fortune and do the least amount of work. I think it must be an allergy to getting dirty! I did mine myself as they were in a terrible condition, and yes it had full MBSH. The parts dept. were helpful though.
Good luck.

thanks for the comments guys.

yeah, from my experience with the stealership they charge a lot but do a little . they never do the job right.

i would actually prefer to do everything myself. i think i would actually enjoy it.

does anyone have a diy instruction. also how much do w208 amg pads and rotors cost.

i only have 35k miles in my car, is it too early to change the pads and rotors?

The left rotor for a CLK55 is part number 2104211812. The right rotor is part number 2104211812. The list price for each rotor is $288. The front pad set is part number WA2104200120 and it has a list price of $192. Both rear rotors are the same, and they’re part number 2104230812. Rear rotors have a list price of $64. The rear pad set is part number 0034204820, and has a list price of $65. Three brake wear sensors are needed (one or each of the front two pad sets, and one of the rears). The sensors are part number 1265402017. The sensors have a list price of $3.90 each. That’s about $1K in parts. With an MBCA membership, parts can be purchased at a discount. With the discount, front rotors are $230, front pads are $154, rear rotors are $51, rear pads are $52, and sensors are $3. About $780 plus tax.

Pads and rotors are changed based on wear, not mileage. Assuming you’ve checked the pads and they’re worn low, the rotors should be mic’d. That’s when you take a micrometer and measure the thickness of a rotor.

When new, the front rotors on a 2001/2002 CLK55 are 32mm. New rears are 22mm. The wear limit on the front rotors is 30.4mm. When you mic them, if the fronts are below 31mm, you need new ones. That’s the “service wear limit”. The service wear limit for the rears is 20mm.

Unfortunately, I never teach anyone how to do brakes over the Internet. If someone misinterprets what I type, or I’m less than explicit, the front bumper may be transformed into the “last option stopping apparatus”. If you have a friend who knows brakes, they’re your least expensive option for labor.

I changed my front pads to Hawk performance ceramics $90 from Tirerack.com. The OEM were still good but sucked, too much dust. Go with Ceramic pads very little dust and it doesnt eat up the rotors. The front AMG rotors are expensive $270 for each! So you want them to last with ceramic pads.

I always wondered what the background story on that pair of photos was. Nearest I can gather is a rally or hill climb event?
