whinning sound when starting car up.

whinning sound when starting car up.

does everyone elses car do this as well? it almost sounds like a supercharger whinning. everyone who sits in my car for the first time asks what the sound is. I've had people suggest that my waterpump is going, could be the alternator.

2017 W205 C43 AMG

Same here. Only at start-up when the engine is compeltely cold. You can really hear it in 1st gear up to 3000 RPM. After the car shifts to 2nd, and when it's warmed up, the sound disappears. Many think that it could be the poewr steering.

The air pump, commonly referred to as the "smog pump" injects air into the exhaust system at startup to reduce emmissions.
